Our participants overwhelmingly report an increase in a sense of belonging in community and country, and emerge more:
- hopeful and inspired,
- capable of creating goodwill across differences,
- confident in their abilities to engage across differences, and
- interested in building relationships and working together.
Bring Your Friends!
WHY ROTARY & COURAGEOUS LEADERSHIP?
Rotary is one of the few US groups that creates high levels of trust, where people from many backgrounds and perspectives build bonds while achieving results. This Courageous Community event combines Rotary’s "Service Above Self” model with Courageous Leadership’s proven collaboration methods. Our programs are built on solid social science, and have helped people increase social and emotional intelligence and build trust in each other and our society. We have delivered programs for “Courageous Community” across differences to 500+ Rotarians and friends from 40+ California Rotary Clubs. Our evidence-based tools have been used by Salesforce, Microsoft, Pfizer, Hewlett Foundation, Google, Center for Domestic Peace, GE, and more. A recent TED Talk provides a glimpse of the methodology.
Every great team, community, and country faces conflict when differing perspectives and ideas collide. But instead of shying away, these can be invitations to build “Courageous Community," and turn fear into excitement, curiosity, and positive impact.
DEMONSTRATED IMPACT
Third-party research by Jonathan Haidt’s Civil Politics, showed the “Courageous Community” program yielded some of the highest results of any of the many “bridging divides” programs they had evaluated, with statistically significant increases in:
- A sense of belonging,
- Willingness to work across difference to achieve common goals, and
- Motivation to bridge differences
An internal evaluation of the initial Rotary “Courageous Conversations” showed that:
- 94% of participants want Rotary to continue to develop these sessions;
- 92% learned important information; and
- 86% will behave differently in the future because of the training.

Yolo County Casa Training
Be the Consistent, Caring Adult a Child in Foster Care Deserves
Nearly 40 children in Yolo County are currently waiting for a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)—someone to stand by their side, speak up for their best interests, and ensure they don’t face the foster care system alone.
This June, during National Reunification Month, we’re reminded just how powerful that support can be. Children with a CASA are more likely to reunify with family and less likely to re-enter foster care. Why? Because consistent, caring advocacy changes outcomes.
So far this fiscal year, Yolo County CASA has served 108 children. With your help, we can reach our goal of 125 children by the end of the year.
We are currently accepting volunteers for our Summer 2025 CASA Training Class, and your voice, your time, and your heart could be the difference a child in care has been waiting for.
Summer 2025 Training Dates:
- Saturday, July 26
- Wednesday, July 30
- Wednesday, August 6
- Wednesday, August 13
- Wednesday, August 20
Swear-In Ceremony: Wednesday, September 3 (held at the Yolo County Courthouse)
At Yolo County CASA, volunteers are carefully matched with a child based on their strengths, interests, and preferences. Each CASA is also supported by a dedicated advocate supervisor and does not need to attend court hearings alone. Judges regularly rely on CASA reports to help make informed, child-centered decisions.
Over 51% of our volunteers are on their second case—and many form lifelong bonds with the children they serve.
Now more than ever, children in our community need someone to show up for them.
